  • Electronic Materials Research Laboratory (EMRL), Xi’an Jiaotong University

Electronic Materials Research Laboratory, the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education was established in1986 by Prof. Yao Xi, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and foreign associate of National Academy of Engineering. The laboratory was one of the seven pilot laboratories in the State Key Studies Development Project supported by World Bank. In August 2000 the laboratory was appointed as the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education.
The major research scopes of the laboratory are ferroelectric ceramics and devices, dielectric ceramics and devices, single crystal materials and devices, energy harvest materials and devices, Ferro/Piezoelectric thin films and devices, etc. In the past five years, there are more than 110 projects completed and being undertaken by the laboratory, including 7 National 973 Projects, 4 National 863 Projects, 28 research projects of National Nature Science Foundation and 5 International Cooperative projects. More than 530 research papers were published in the SCI journals.
There are 31 members in the laboratory, including 15 professors and 7 associate professors, all the members have Ph.D. degree. Among the faculty members, 1 person is the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 persons were designated as “Chang Jiang Scholars” and 2 persons were introduced by the national Thousand Talents Program.emrl

The laboratory has hosted many important international academic meetings and launched an international academic journal named Journal of Advanced Dielectrics (JAD). The laboratory has kept very close academic contact and personnel exchange with many Institutions and Universities abroad. Every year many academic scientists from abroad were invited to visit or work in the laboratory, and the researchers in the laboratory were also invited to go abroad as visiting scientists. Especially since the Innovation and Talents Introduction Base (111 Project) on Multi-functional Ferroelectric Materials and Devices was approved in 2013, the international exchanges and communication in the laboratory reached a new level.

  • State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University

Financed by the World Bank loan, the State Key Lab for Manufacturing Systems Engineering (SKLMS) was formally founded in 1995. Integrating modern information science and technology and utilizing new methodologies in systems engineering, mechanical engineering and management engineering, its mission is to develop new concepts, methodologies and technologies for manufacturing industries. Particularly, the Lab makes great efforts to make use of its advanced facility and equipment to carry out frontier research on advanced manufacturing systems, to educate high-level researchers and to train industrial practitioners in China.
The lab consists of 6 divisions: Division for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing, Division for System Optimization and Scheduling, Division for System Monitoring and Diagnosis, Division for Manufacturing Information Systems and CIMS, Division for Precision Engineering and Photoelectronic Technology, and Division for Management and Decision in Manufacturing System. There are 40 resident faculty members, engineers and administrators. Among the resident members there are three academician , six holding Cheung Kong Professorship, five awardee of recruitment program of global experts, three awarded National Outstanding Young Investigator Grant, and many bestowed various awards for outstanding young faculty members.
Research Focuses:  Theories and technologies of advanced manufacturing (agile manufacturing; virtual manufacturing; concurrent engineering; rapid prototyping; reverse engineering; quality engineering; etc.); Manufacturing information and systems engineering (modern integration technology, modeling, simulation and scheduling of manufacturing systems, network information systems, database, computer systems for cooperative work , network and information security, etc); Monitoring and control of manufacturing equipment and systems (dynamic analysis and fault diagnosis of industrial equipment and systems, advanced mechanical control, robotics, MEMS and photoelectronic technology, etc.) ; Management and decisions in advanced manufacturing systems (development strategy, virtual enterprise, supply chain management).
Research Projects and Achievements: Based on its mission and research focuses, the lab has undertaken 231 research projects, including 28 projects of National 863 Program, 8 projects of National 973 program, 45 research projects of NSFC, 6 of the National Key Tech Initiatives, 52 of Ministerial & provincial projects, and 8 international cooperation projects since 2008.
The researchers in the Lab are awarded 6 National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology or Invention (Second Grade ),20 Provincial or Ministerial Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology or Invention (15 First Grade, 6 Second Grade).They published 23 books, 610 papers in international journals (SCI)and granted 201 invention patents of China. Since 2008, the Lab graduated 228 Ph.D. and  trained 45 postdoctoral research fellows.
International Collaboration and Exchanges: The Lab has been making great efforts on international collaborations and exchanges, and established long term relationships with the counter parts of many prominent overseas research institutions including Harvard University, Columbia University, etc. Since 2008, the Lab has invited over 46 distinguished scholars from Harvard University, Oxford University, University of Toronto, Kei Ying University, Royal Swedish Institute of Technology, Institute of Industrial Automation of Italy, etc., to give lecture and seminars in the Lab, whilst the resident members of the Lab also went aboard to give seminars at Harvard University, MIT, Ache University of Technology, University of California at Davis, etc. The lab also has received 81 visiting scholars from aboard and within the country.   • Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) MEMS Lab

Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) was approved as state key university in 1960; it became among the top ones of the 15 best universities in state 7th and 8th Five-year-plan. In 9th Five-year-plan it was approved into 211 Project, and 10th Five-year-plan 985 Project. NPU is one of the first universities establishing graduate school and the national university science park and now equipped with China’s top UAV Research and Development Base.NPU

The MEMS lab at NPU is currently a key laboratory of Ministry of Education, China. It is a 3000 square meters facility completely devoted to MEMS research. This facility has a clean-room lab (800 square meters) owning a 4-inch wafer MEMS research foundry, CAD lab, and a measurement/metrology lab. It is constantly supporting about 100 researchers to develop innovative MEMS/NEMS devices such as shear stress sensors, pressure sensors, micro inertial sensors, micro scanning mirrors, and microfluidic devices. These devices have been successfully applied in active fluid sensing and control, attitude heading and reference, micro projector, blood cell counting, and water quality monitoring.?????
